Oxygen Sensor Problems - 02 Silverado

Postby Jval629 [OP] » Mar 05 2013, 4:34pm

Hello,
Searched the forum and couldn't find anything for my specific problem. It started with a CEL that said insufficient activity for Bank 1 Sensor 2 o2 sensor. I replaced the sensor with a Bosch and still had the same code. I swapped the downstream sensors and the code went to the other side. Hooked a scan tool up and the new sensor is showing a voltage of between .44v and .48v while the other o2 sensor is between 0 and .8v. Swapping the sensors around tells me that the wiring is good on both sides, but I'm just having problems with the sensor. I've tried two different Bosch part #'s and an AC Delco and all of them are giving me the same problems. Anyone have any ideas on this?

Thanks in advance.

The original code was insufficient activity bank 1 sensor 2. I don't remember the actual number for it and the current code is P0140 and is the same with all 3 sensors I've tried but will switch to the other side if I try the sensor from bank 2 that I know is good. I'm guessing I'm just having horrible luck with sensors or something, I have a ngk sensor coming today to try.

Well, got the NTK sensor today, same problem. I just don't get it and don't really know what to do other than continue to try other sensors. This is a list of sensors I've tried so far...

Bosch 13474
Bosch 13055
ACDelco AFS 106
NTK/NGK 21539

I guess I'll try to pick up a Denso tomorrow and try it if I can't figure anything else out.

Did you clear the code after putting the sensor in? And so your sure that the wiring is working? ... i have the same code on my honda but haven't put the new sensor in or cleared it but there was an alternative that was mentioned if it still didn't clear after putting the new one in .. it had to do with wiring near the manifold that would short. But it seems like your wiring is good if you switched and the code would jump to the other side ... I have to run in town but will try to get the O2 sensor make and model number for ya if i can find it around here, if not its most likely in my truck which is having its door painted. So PM me if your denso sensor doesn't work.

Unfortunately NAPA sold me an upstream sensor and I didn't look at it until I got home. I'm off work tomorrow so I will return it and get a Denso downstream sensor and I will update the post then.

Got the Denso, same problem. I'm pretty much out of ideas at this point.

It most likely not the sensor, its got to be part of the wiring. It is porbably short somewhere, Trace the wiring from the O2 sensors all the way back and see if its touching any surfaces that may be hot(exhaust, etc to the fuse box) also check your fuse box for a blown fuse. Check the fuse box first and then check the wiring of the O2 sensors going to the fuse box.
