Same Side dual exit

Same Side dual exit

Postby Huntermb [OP] » Jan 04 2012, 8:31pm

I was jsut wondering how many of your guys are running your duals out the same side right behind the tire, where the factory pipe used to go? I'm interested in this setup for my truck. anyone have any pics of theirs? Any downsides to running them both out the same side?

Hi Hunter,

Do you mean a "true" dual system from the cat pipes all the way back?

Link: Amazon Example only. Two inlet pipes to one muffler dual outlets, or two inlets to two mufflers, dual outlets

OR

Do you mean "dual" from the muffler back?? See the link for example...

Hope this helped, :-)

I mean true duals from the cats back. My truck has factory dual 2-3/4" pipes from separate cats to a di/so muffler. I am going to put on a pair of mufflers but was trying to decide where to run the exhaust pipes out. Years ago we just ran them out both sides straight out the back but I've been wondering about putting them both side by side out behind the rear tire, in much the same position the factory pipe is sitting.

When I can come up with 950 bucks I'm probably going to use that set up from Stainless Works in preparation to save up for their headers. They are a true dual with a y pipe right at the cat and wil be a completely true dual set up when I get the headers. I don't plan on installing their tips so the pipes are still up under the fender, I prefer the hidden exhaust look.

I did this on my "other" truck because I was a little bored with all of the other standard options out there. A custom exhaust shop custom build the exhaust for less money than I could have bought any of the standard kits for:

The only problem is the amount of rubber that accumulates on the exahust ;)

I mainly did it so that the exhaust was fairly quiet in the cab but plenty loud to anyone I was passing.

All of my other pictures of this setup include a blue oval, so I figured I would spare the criticism haha

I'm having mine done by a local exhaust shop too, they give good deals and do great work. My pipes to the existing muffler are still perfect so I just need to get them to put on two mufflers and run the tailpipes.

Hi,

I've looked at Magnaflow, Flowmaster, Corsa, and Dynamax... Seems most aftermarket units will not be what you want. You'll probably need a muffler shop to complete the install for you. You might even have to use GlassPak type mufflers.

My guess would be that the exhaust sound would or could be awesome, depending on the mufflers you use. The amount of space under the truck, might be the biggest draw back.

I hope this helped, :-)

I think he will be fine with any muffler, I had two 50 series Flowmasters side by side (length wise vertical) on the true dual dumped exhaust on my 03 SS Silverado

The factory muffler on this thing is the size of a small compact car, I've got lots of room for a couple of flowmasters or the like side by side in there. I've actually heard a couple of trucks here in the last little while running dual thrush welded mufflers and they sound pretty good. I was more curious how many folks ran there exhaust out the same side behind the tire. I thought it might give me a different look from most everyone else I see these days with the split out each side or out the back.

I haven't done it yet, but mine will be run with true duals exiting in the stock location. I haven't decided on Flowmaster 50 series or Hush Thursh mufflers yet. My local shop priced it with Flowmasters at $275. Good deal in my book.
