Shortie Header Reccomendations?

Postby Blakelocati [OP] » Nov 24 2011, 1:05am

Hey guys, I am looking for some good shortie headers to buy for my 08 Silverado 6.0l. First off, long tubes are not an option. I live in California (unfortunately), and long tubes will not pass smog here. That leads to my second point, the shorties also have to have a 50 state CARB (smog) certification. I am looking to spend about $300 or so, but I would be willing to go up or down about a $100. I know I will not be seeing the same results as long tubes, but if the headers only cost about $300, then I am not too concerned if I don't see AMAZING gains; I am looking for just a little boost in performance and something that is a little louder than stock. I want to invest in these headers now, as I would like to supercharge my truck in the future. I figure getting the exhaust opened up now would be good preperation for the supercharger. As of now, the only mods I have to my exhaust is a 3" cat back single side exit exhaust system with a flowmaster super 40. Also, if it makes any difference, I have a Volant CAI as well.

So, who has some shortie suggestions for me?
Thanks!

Have you tried going to Summit, StylinTruck or Autoanything and doing a search for you truck? I found Gibson and JBA shorty headers on Autoanything for 390-440 with out any options. Either one will probably suite your needs for a shorty header.

300 is really going to be on the low side and make your search difficult. But it also depends on what you want. If you want coated headers, your going to double the cost but helps with heat which will be very beneficial if you sc it!! Regular headers come painted but will quickly burn off which will make it almost an eye sore (no more than they are now). But if you sc it, I strongly suggest the coated headers. If you are not familiar, they dip them and they looked polished. I had cheap pacesetters on one of my old cars and they worked very well without porblems. If you do headers, you might also want to look at high flow cats. Im not sure about Cali laws with that though.

Go to Edelbrock.com to the online store and when that page opens, type in 65022 in the search box. The results should show ceramic coated shorty headers that will work on your truck. They are 50-state legal and are on clearance now for $168.90 + shipping (about $27). I bought a set last month and it cost me $287 shipped to the door, which was still a good deal. But I'm pissed because I could have waited and saved about $100.00

That's a steal for those shorties!! If I didn't want to run full length headers in the future I would jump all over those.

What a great deal. Wonder how long it is going to last. Going to try to convince the parents to order them for me for Christmas tomorrow. There are three options, however, and I don't know which one I need. The only difference I see is that one descriptions says no EGR or AIR, but I have no idea what that means... Here is the link for the 3 different headers and thanks for the help!

They're all the same header. The 65022 is the nickel plated ceramic coated. The 65023 is the ti-tech coating...not sure if they have these, but they don't show up in the store. EGR and AIR are emissions controls. You can go to the local Chevy parts counter with your VIN and they can tell you if your engine has either or not.

Does this men if I do have egr and air, then I need to get the other set that doesn't say "no egr and air" or do all of them made for trucks without egr and air?

These are the only part number Edelbrock has for the 2008. My instructions say they are for a 6.0 in 1500s/2500s, so your truck probably doesn't have EGR and AIR. I have a set for sale in the classifieds if you can't get them from Edelbrock in time, of course mine are more but are still a good deal if you research the price of shorty headers by other brands of the same quality.

Good advice. I called up the stealership, and they were surprisingly helpful. He said that my truck didn't have EGR or air induction. He also said that this was rare, because most cars that were made for sale in California (and mine was) have both. Anyways, I went a head and ordered the headers that say "no EGR or AIR". They were about $198 out the door, which is an awesome deal! I won't be installing them until Christmas (parents bought them as gift), but I will try to either review them or let you know how they turn out on this post. Thanks for the help!
