Stock vs. Short vs. Long Tube Headers

Postby jstreet [OP] » Sep 03 2011, 5:46pm

Here's an interesting article I came across while looking into long tube headers that I thought some of you might like. Fourwheeler.com ran a test on a stock 2007 Chevy Tahoe with a 5.3L V8 with stock manifold and exhaust, Gibson shorty headers with an after-cat exhaust to match, and Stainless Works long-tube headers and a full Stainless Works true dual exhaust system. They ran each on a dyno and posted the line-by-line results at the bottom after their reviews of the systems. Enjoy!

Good article. Given that the shorty's only added 8HP, I'd probably not bother. The long tubes added 21 HP, but according to the article, are a complete pain to install. I think I'm convinced that stock is just fine...

Thanks!

I put long tube pace setters, and deleted the cats on my 02 z71, along with a cold air intake and 3 inch exhaust, its a pain to install but in my opinion very worth it!

I can't complain about my 1 3/4 OBX LT's w/ Cats. $700 shipped. Took me a little less than 6 hrs to install. I picked up some noticeable gains. Thinking of putting it n the dyno and see what it does.
