Tapping Noise

Postby racicot71 [OP] » Jun 12 2012, 9:38pm

I have a 2003 chevy silervado 1500 V8 4.8L

I just noticed last night, this is when it started. It is a tapping noise and it is coming from the passenger side. It is not coming from the inside and it sounds like it is coming from underneath my truck, now I went under my truck today to try to find if something was loose or if anything was bumping each other and I could not find anything. Now, when I am driving it has you can hear it when I speed up it gets louder as well. I thought I might have something in my tread there is nothing. Now, I have all new rotors brakes and calipers put on both sides on the front end. So doubt it would be that, I thought it could be a wheel bearing but through all the vehicles I owned they never made a tapping noise. Anyone that can answer please do it and make it understandable please. Thank you.

Depending on how it sounds, it could be a belt starting to seperate in a tire. When that happens it will usually have a vibration as well.

Could be an exhaust leak. I know my uncle had a hole in his exhaust and it made an almost tapping noise. It got louder the harder the truck was ran.

Tapping Noise

You could prally rotate the tire and see if the noise follows it. Not an exhaust type noise is it? Like a leak over there? Or its deeper?

I have brand new tires on there, so I know it wont be the tires. For exhaust leak, that sound would be the first, I know exhaust leaks i'm not putting it down, it just doesn't seem to be that but it could be. I just find it weird, that I cannot hear it from the driver side but the passenger side I can.

Tapping Noise

Postby Machster69 » Jun 13 2012, 1:32am

New tires doesnt rule out the tire :/

Maybe you could record it and post it here so we can get an idea the sound?
