Turning MBRP single exit to MBRP turn down exhaust

Here is a picture of where I am planning on cutting my exhaust tomorrow on the part where it straightens out right after the rear axle.

I want to change up the look a bit as well as the sound so I'm going to make a straight cut about a quarter of the way down and then attach my existing tip. I am hoping it will looks pretty much like this which is the MBRP turn down exhaust for diesels. They don't make a turn down for gas.

Hopefully everything will turn out well but if it does not im cutting there in the first place so if it doesnt sound like I want it to I can get a piece of pipe from autozone and attach it back to the original set up.

That's what I did on mine. I measured in from the end of the tailpipe 31 1/2" ,cut there and added a chrome tip. If you want to return to stock length, just get a butt-joint band clamp and put that piece of tailpipe back on.

Oh dang yeah thats exactly it. Did it change the sound much? I'm hoping it'll make it a little louder cause it'll be bouncin the sound off the ground

A little more growl and rumble. Good to the ears.
Going to a larger diameter tip should act like a megaphone and make it louder.
Watch out for drone.

I'm staying with the same 4inch mbrp tip. The drone is the only worry but that's why I'm doing so I can return it to the way it is now. But I figure keeping it that far away from the cab will help

Alright got it done it turned out just like I thought it would. It keeps some of the sound under the truck so it makes it deeper but still zero drone. Love that about mbrp. Here's the finished product.

I did the same. Love the clean look.

Just out of curiosity, why the chrome tip if it's not seen? Or did it just come with the kit?

I'm thinking about doin the same thing but I have a borla single in dual out I'm probably going to unbolt the pipe at the muffler and then put a turn down on it can you see the pipe from the side?

Thanks guys. I put the tip on because I already had it on the end of my original set up from MBRP so I figured I would add it onto because walking up tot the truck on the passenger side you can see it and it makes it look complete. Make it look like I didn't just hack it off like I did haha.. I was also thinking about doing the turndown method right after the muffler but I fired it up when I took the pipe from the muffler off and the sound gave me an instant headache from the drone-ish sound.. didn't sound good at all. MBRP is so deep already I had to leave some pipe on there.

Yea if I would have heard of mbrp before I bought my borla I deffenatley would have got the mbrp but I can't sell a used borla for even half of what I bought it for so I'm stuck with it
