Not bad! Not bad at all!

Deviating the thread ever so slightly more, I've seen sportsers have a better crack at performance being so much lighter then most of their brothers. Even recall seeing a guy have one on the track for a track day a while ago and kept the rubber side down all day. With that bikes geometry that's pretty darn good!

In fairness HD purposely makes most of their machines at a performance disadvantage. First twins are just not that powerful even properly tuned without displacement. Ie, at the pro racing levels the Ducati 848cc and Buell 1125 twins are allowed to compete with the 599cc inline 4 asian makes (which are my preference). They aren't very fast off the line though have good top end. Next HD appears to put a noticable amount of valve overlap in their tuning giving the bike that stumbling sort of idling sound but resulting in a power loss. But, people like that, so to each his own. ;)

To me riding is an athletic activity, a sport. Not a relaxing leisurely experience which is why I come from where I do when I make references. 8-)

I gave up an 04 Honda CBR 600RR for my HD, I rolled off a bypass road and clicked 2nd at 85 mph and still had a grand to climb before shifting. I let off and thought about my 3 month old and had my Sporty a month later (if even that).

Loud pipes are a tool (and a nusence in some eyes, but I think hybrids are a fad and Smart Cars are an unsafe nusence), like Gericki said, you can't replace proper riding technique and gear with noise makers.

This thread could go on forever... end of the day...it's up to the EAR of the beholder. So for my ear's oppinion, I like the low rumble of my Flow Masters and the resulting HP/Torque benefits as well. To me, there is a difference between a good deep sounding throaty exhaust and an exhaust that's just way too loud; throw me some ear plugs quick. Anybody can bolt some pipes up and let 'er rip. You can go loud without going horribly obnoxious. My 1/2 cent.

I'm just a fan of having a truck sound like what it is.....A truck. There really isn't much more to it.

Yeah, it all falls into the ears of the beholder, and I respect everyone's opinions. But sometimes you'll have people trying to push a certain viewpoint down your throat, but for what? So they can get their viewpoint out to more people? It's all personal preference, there's no need to push your preference on someone else, who more than likely has a different preference than you.

Speaking of exhausts, however, this weekend is gonna be a big one for me, and I will finally wake up the sound of my truck to reflect what I think it should sound like. Posts on my blog to follow...

I wished I have a nice sounding exhaust on my truck but now I'm glad I don't. It's easier to sneak back into the house at 2-3 in the morning with a quite car and not wake the old lady up. Silence is golden for me.

What is it about LOUD exhaust systems?

Postby happyhourhero » Mar 10 2012, 3:40am

I think a loud exhaust goes well with a truck. But I do hear some trucks and it makes wonder If that's really there daily driver because that has to get annoying in the cab. I had an 83 c10 I drove for a while and the exhaust system completely fell off while driving it was very loud to say the least. I would love to throw some super 10s on my truck but I don't want to deal with that 4 banger sound when that AFM kicks on.
