Bug Deflector

Rubs the top of grill

Bug Deflector

Postby dp121 [OP] » Apr 10 2011, 11:58pm

Just installed an EGR bug deflector and the bottom sits right on top of the grill when the hood is shut. No gap at all. You couldn't even slide a piece of paper through with the hood shut. Seems to me that this would rub and wear on the area where the grill and deflector meet. Bothered me so much I have taken it off for now. This is on a '11 Silverado. Any one else experience this?

After reading your post earlier this morning I checked mine. I have AVS brand not ERG. I can get a credit card in the gap you described. I didnt see any signs of rubbing on mine. I went alittle tighter on the install grommets than they said. Maybe that will pull it up alittle. Just dont want to tighten to much or you will break or crack the guard. One other thing, maybe a small strip of the fuzzy sided velcro along the top grill part to protect, or take it back and go with the AVS product.

I think I'm gonna return it. I had it on as tight as I could with out breaking the plastic. Thanks for checking yours and thanks for the reply. I'll go with what you've got. Looks good to me.

I say return it. An ill-fitting guard will create issues long term.
Also, make sure they sent you the right one. I bought one for my old Avalanche, and they mixed up the years of my truck. I could swear that the hood of the Avy was the same as prior years, but they were not. Just enough change that I had some rubbing.

Went to UPS and got a shipping quote of $63 to return it. I paid $60. Guess I'll put it up on Craigs List.

Hey Satrsnbars, What model or version of the AVS bug deflector do you have? I am having trouble finding one that looks like yours. I see they have a Bug deflector I and II.
