Drivers door won't open

Postby sierra338 [OP] » Dec 11 2010, 2:48am

I just got an 07 Sierra ext cab a few weeks ago, this morning I got into my truck to drive to work and the door would not stay latched closed. the latch mechanism would move into place but not lock into position. I pressed the power locks while holding the door closed, and then unlocked it sagain and it worked fine. after work the same thing happened only my my door is stuck closed and no matter what I do it will not open. I tried unlocking my door manually and with the power locks and the lock works but the mechanism seems stuck. Am I stuck going to the dealer or is there something I can do? (It is the stock door handles). Thanks

First off, welcome to the site!

Before I ask too much, how mechanically inclined are you?
My suggestion would be to take the door panel off and make sure that everything is lubricated well and everything looks intact.

Now, after I just wrote that, I realized that you said the door was stuck shut, now you're in a pickle! I would still try and take the panel off and see what you can find.
Good Luck and I hope someone else can chirp in with some pointers.

Tough situation !

A couple of suggestions:
Have you tried operating the lock with the key?
Have you tried opening from both inside & outside?

Sounds like you did what I would have done - anything to get myself to work!

I've noticed on my ext cab, that sometimes the rear door is closed but isn't latched properly (and then it rattles). I've been wondering if that would cause anything like your problem to occur.

Sorry I don't have any more suggestions. Let us know how you make out with it.
If you want to do what you want to do, you have to do what you have to do.

I have tried the key, the power locks and opening it from the inside and outside. The locks work fine and seem unlock with the key or power, but when it is unlocked the door will not open. I'm not sure how I would get the panel off with the door closed, and I've had the truck for less than 3 weeks so I'm going to run down to the dealership tomorow and see what I can do. I still have the "30 day satisfaction garuntee"

Just an update, went to the dealer and they said it was the actuator and will take a few hiours to fix. Hopefully this isn't a common problem

I just ran into a similar issue yesterday with my 2008 Silverado: my wife called me on the phone to say that she was locked in the truck and couldn't get out... After pissing her off because I laughed, we tried to unlock both doors manually and electrically, and neither one would open with the inside or outside handle... :x She started the engine back up, put it into drive, then park again, and then the driver's door could be opened. I suspect it's electrical somehow or connected to the DIC, as we manually pulled the door locks up without a problem, but the doors were still locked...

It wasn't that cold (above freezing) so I'm still scratching my head on this one...I can't believe both actuators would go out together...(?) But I guess I'll be going to the dealer too...

Yeah, I searched the internet a bit and it looks like it happens to a lot of cars... best I can come up with is the ECM needing unplugged/reboot...the locks are somehow getting the message to deadlock, like when it's moving down the road...

Luckily it's still under warrantee, because the dealer just replaced the actuators...seems to work okay for now, but still strikes me as weird...
