Factory front tow hooks

Have they been reliable to tow with?

When I pulled off the front end of my truck to put on my fab four bumper my 2012 Sierra crew with z71 the recovery hooks appeared to be at most 1/2inch , however my recover points now are shackles and they have a rating hire then the truck can tow (but they are tobe used no more then class I'V)

Those recovery points are stronger than you think. I have a clevis that is smaller than the points on the front and it is rated to 25,000 lbs. I think that when your buddy was recovering the jeep that was stuck he was jerking on it pretty hard. I use a very long strap and heavy duty shackles to recover people with, but even with that you can never jerk another vehicle out by the front tow points.

In my friends defense he has little or no experience with offroading . and uses his 4x4 Sierra to get to his hunting and fishing camp year round >>> Buddy with the Modified CJ Set it on it's frame rails in a bottomless Quagmire >>> he the jeep owner provided the tow Strap and instructions !!!! He did leave considerable slack in the strap and made a run and " the rest is history " >>> End of story

Good way to get hurt/killed if the thing comes unhooked/breaks and passes through the windshield...its amazing how much energy those straps have.

I hope he was at least pulling with BOTH tow hooks at the same time...good way to tweak the frame; been there, done that too. I towed a small car out of a field (couple people I really didn't like), and I jerked them pretty hard...that car never went down the road straight after that night, and the local alignment place said the chassis was twisted. While that was a towed vehicle, you can do the same damage to the towing vehicle.
