oe fender flares vs. aftermarket?

fender flares

Postby Screech [OP] » Dec 26 2011, 11:12pm

I am looking to get some fender flares for my 06 gmc z71. Price wise, the oe style is nice but the after market bush wacker flares look nicer. Anyone have any insite about the build quality of the 2 and installation issues?

Bushwacker is what I have and they're nice. Look at stampede also, they're a good alternative and look just like bushwackers.

I put a set of Bushwackers on a Jeep Cherokee and they made it look totally different (in a good way). I'm not sure how much, if any, you would have to cut the fenders, but on the Jeep we had to hack a good bit off. They look really good, but depending on how hard the instilation is on the GM trucks, it may be more work than you want to undertake. Maybe some of the guys that have put them on their GM's could shed some light into what all is involved for your truck.

The Bushwackers install pretty easy, they use factory holes and screws in the fender well plus compression fit.

That's good how they use the same holes as the factory. When I put the ones on the Cherokee I drilled right into the washer bottle while I was drilling one hole. You would think they would have said something about that in the instructions.

Thanks for all the insite! My truck came with out fender flairs, just a smooth little lip. i dont want to drill the pannels at all if i dont have to. those bush wacker do look nice, but im leaning more towards the factory size and style (until i can afford a nice 6" lift and 35"mud huckers!)
