Fog Lights Pre-Wired???

Postby m311down [OP] » Oct 04 2012, 12:24am

I have a 2012 Silverado, Crew Cab, Allstar. and convenience package. Does not have fog lamps. However, it does have the fuse and relay under the hood. Does that mean it is pre wired? I hope so.
I've done a search of this forum and could not find an exact answer. It wasn't an extensive search as I am getting frustrated. Anyone have any knowledge on this? Sorry if this topic was already discussed.

I would almost say, 'Yes'. Since these trucks run on an assembly line, most trucks have all the same wiring, just some things are hooked up and some aren't depending on vehicle packages. There was quite a lot of this talk about a year ago about certain electrical options that people were finding out were already wired into their vehicles...just not connected. I may be wrong, but at least I can keep your post alive until someone with an absolute correct answer comes along!

All of the wiring is there up to the fuse box. But after that, you have to wire in your own harness from the fuse box to the fog lights. GM sells a kit with the harness, switch, and fogs along with the end caps that house them. They sell several different kits that are pre-painted to match your current color. Cheapest place to buy is on ebay from a dealer, normally $300-320 shipped.

Or you can go the route I went, pick up everything separately and piece a kit together. ALthough I had to make my own wiring harness, but I think I spend about $180 for all of my components.

The switch plugs right into the dash and works, no need for programming or anything else.

Looks like it is per-wired but as said its better to get advice and help from a technician who will help you in getting things repaired without much pondering and doesn't lead to waste of money.

Thats the route i was going to take. I found most of the parts except for the harness on rockauto.com Seems to be the cheapest especially since I will have to have the end caps painted (Greystone Metallic everything seems to be discontinued)
Thanks Everybody

Sucks to hear that they might have discontinued your color code. Chrome end caps are always an option as well.

that is very strange... mine is the same way, but if you look at chevy's spec sheet, it shows fogs are included with this package... check it out:

All-Star Edition: Vortec 5.3L V8, automatic
locking rear differential, Trailering Package,
17" aluminum wheels, dual-zone automatic
climate controls, Bluetooth® wireless
technology for select phones, CD/MP3 player
and USB port, steering wheel-mounted audio
controls, six-way power-adjustable driver seat,
foglamps and EZ Lift locking tailgate
