Front Air Dam

Re: Front Air Dam

Postby ricka182 » Sep 28 2011, 3:34pm

Well here's another mod I'll consider. Mine already has 2 popped plastic rivets that won't snap back in, so it hangs 1/2 an inch or so on the driver side. I'm pulling it off this weekend....

What a difference!!! I definitely recommend it! After reading the manual and seeing that they recommend removing it for off road use and reinstalling it for street driving, they are crazy; that's way too much work to do each time I need to go off road!

Here are the before and after pics, it took me about 20 minutes to remove it.

Just a thought related to this thread...

I was confused as to exactly which piece would be removed on my truck. I though it was all one piece under the bumper, but like the pics above there 2; the lower air dam, and the upper piece that is directly under the bumper, in which the tow hooks come through.

Is it that bad an idea to remove the whole assembly? I have no foglights, so the openings are closed off, and I dont' know what else that piece would do. I think without it, the truck would look much higher. Here's a pic with my MS Paint mastery trying to better explain..

Image

Under that piece, 2 of the clips are already broken, and are being secured with duct tape. There are also a few others that are loose as well. i was thinking pulling it off would make it look better...maybe?..

thx

I think it may give a rough look, if you see a lot of under carraige. Also, that piece may give some protection from rocks and debris hitting your under carraige.

Ok, that makes sense. I do have some skid plates under there, but not sure if that's enough. I also plan on getting a bullbar eventually, which has a plate in the middle..

I think it will stay for now. Maybe I'll pull it off just to see what it looks like..

If you do, take a pic for us. I would be interested in seeing it.

Thanks!

EK: I'm going to pull off the other piece tomorrow or Saturday. I'll take some pics to share what it looks like.

Twday: Looks good..just a thought on something. With the white wrapping around from the fenders, you ever think of making the front piece that hooks come through white as well? It's probably a simple spray job with Krylon Fusion, with some masking for overspray, but I think it would look good..
