Grille paint ?????

Postby Popgun05 [OP] » Feb 19 2012, 2:35pm

Hey all. I have the chrome oval grille on my Sierra and need help on how to black it out. If I paint it, worried about the paint sticking to the chrome finish. How do I prep and what kind of paint should I use. Thanks for the help

Is your grill plastic?, if so,,i've used in the past on my old camaro to paint plastics like grill, & intrerior stuff was krylon fusion along with their plastic primer. Check with your body shop supply house for more info.on this Hope this helps.

Yes the grille is plastic. Did you use any sand paper the ruff up the surface before applying the krylon?

You can try a can of Plasti-Dip first.

Wash it real good with soap and water. If you want to sand it, do so real lightly with 600grit and use this stuff. Works great!

Grille paint ?????

Postby ppoopruitt1 » Feb 19 2012, 8:50pm

I like the Krylon fusion for my plastics as well but I sandblast then primer everything before I paint (yes even plastic I sandblast, can be done if you know what you are doing). The PlastiDip is not a bad idea either because it peels right off if you do not like it. I will be doing this next weekend on my bumpers and grille and will be posting pictures as well as comments on it. As for the Dupli-Color I have had great success with their high temp paints but only on metal. I have not used it on plastic but they are a good and reliable painting brand so I bet it would work great.

Thanks for the help fellas. I like the plastidip cause it can be removed but from what I've seen on YouTube videos it looks to dull. I'll give the krylon a try.
