Herculiner/Rocker Panel

Postby Wolferado23 [OP] » Feb 08 2012, 10:00am

Im looking to do my rocker panels this week with the Herculiner roll-on.. I'll try to get a couple of pics up (Currently won't let me upload). Main reason i'm doing this is that I have a small dint that i'm going to bang n bondo as well as I can and I have a small rust spot.. Any tips would be helpful! Also wondering how long to dry and best temperature to keep it at! Will post before pic ASAP!

You would have to check with the packaging but I believe most of the paints and body fillers recommend 65 degrees and up with relatively low humidity.

I hope you bought the small can! Once the can is opened, it's a single use product. The small can is sold as the add-on amount for long beds to the standard kit.

It's been a few years since I used it, but don't recall any drama. You can greatly improve, or mess up the cosmetic look with the right or wrong applicator. I'd plan on having a few different type applicators handy and pick the one the lays it down the nicest.

If you haven't bought it yet, I'd just use spray can undercoating.

I haven't bought it yet, lookin to do so today. I was gonna just buy the quart and then get my own brush and roller. Im gonna use 120 grit sand paper then put a little acetone and finish it off with a degreaser before I throw on the Herculiner.. Any other prep points you know of?? and does the spray can go on pretty thick??

Here's mine: Herculiner rocker panel project All I used was the roller and brush that came with the kit, and it turned out pretty sweet. Oh, and the stuff will keep for a while as long as you pound the lid back on. I used the can all summer long.

I was thinking you were doing the inside. Oops. Don't use the spray can stuff for the exterior.

My herculiner went on with nice even texture. Keeping the can mixed was important. I think I bought the paint can mixer for a drill. My buddy did his truck and it looked horrible. All lumpy and coarse. So it takes some skill to get the finish right.

Did you use the roller that came with the kit? That's what I used.

Be aware that it will fade to gray quickly once sun hits it. Not UV protected.

Mine faded a little when I first applied it, but it stopped pretty quickly.

Thanks for all your help guys!! I read some stuff on it and I think i'm going to hit it with some cheap tire shine whenever I clean it up! I'll post some pics as I go, Im going to do it tonight, bought the quart of Herculiner. Hopefully it does the job. My main focus is to get rid of the only two blemishes on her so hopefully this will clean it up nice!
