Hood and rhino lining question for 1999

Postby mnsoldier21j [OP] » Oct 29 2011, 8:50am

1999 1500 excab. Playing with the idea of 'rino lining' my rockers 360* also thinking the HD look is sweet. As anyone seen or know if i can swap my hood for a HD hood from a 2500HD of like generation as my truck, or do i need to change fenders and grill as well. I also have done mild research on a SAS swap, but have only found kits for 89-98 and 01- 07 i believe. Any help,or advice is greatly helpful. Proud chevy owner

Hood and rhino lining question for 1999

Postby olliepop2500olliepop2500 is online! » Oct 29 2011, 3:20pm

Well u can do the hd swap with the 01-02 hood now the sas you usually are done to 2500s because the axels are stronger so if u do that u will have to change your rear axle to And they need the same gears. It will probably be cheaper to just get a lift kit inless u really want to do all the work

If you are thinking about a SAS. It is not as easy as welding a few mounts and hooking up some springs. You may want to go check a more offroad technical forum such as Pirate4x4.com. Olliepop is correct that you are going to need matching gears and if you are doing that much of a lift, you may want to change out the back axle. I know back when I had my S10 Zr2 the minimum lift you had to do for an SAS was 8 to 10 inches depending on the Front axle you were using. Thats quite a bit as the truck sat 2.5 inches higher at stock from the factory. That is 13.5" Total on the stock narrow Axles. That will fit a 37 to 40 inch tire with trimming. Tall truck with narrow axles means you actually made read one of those "Roll me over..." stickers the right way.

I am not trying to dissuade you in anyway, but it will definitely require a large budget and some technical know-how.

I've done the Hurculiner on the rockers for my truck. It looks AWESOME, and was surprisingly easy to do. Herculiner rocker panel project

If need any tips, just let me know.
