So my 05 silverado came factory NOT equippted with fog lights and i want to install the original ones on the truck but i wanted to see if anyone has done this before? If it was difficult to find the kit or parts and the difficulty level to install them as they would have come out the factory dont want to have a mess of wires and make it look unprofesional.ive been wanting to do this for a while just dont know were to start. a few issues

there is a factory button switch that you can get on Ebay for about 30-40. It is a companion button that is next to the cargo lamp switch. it is fairly easy to install, but as we found out last weekend with our 99, there needs to be a relay for the new button to activate and you may need a computer download for the relay to be recognized. If you want a professional job, and you are not expereinced in this stuff ( Im not) , it will not be an easy diy deal. Most likely you need to see a certified mechanic.

First off, I haven't installed factory foglights on a truck. I do know that your truck should be equipped with the foglight wiring harness. Check that first, then this might help.

these days , all trucks come with the same wiring harnesses. There will be a "plug" or receptacle that will fit into the factory button switch. but where those wires go is something that someone experienced will need to determine. the factory fog light button requires a relay. if your truck didnt come from the factory with foglights, it wont have the button switch you need and it wont have the relay. with my 99, it needs a computer download to then recgonize the relay. We are in the exact process of doing this now, only we want to use that fog light button to power on/off the halo circles my son has on the new headlamps

Gilthorpe: I saw a kit on ebay that come with everything to install the fog lights (exept the lower bumper molding) run for about about $200. i also went to the local dealership to ask how much do they charge to install the fog lights and they charge me $400 for everything and if i install them myself it will be $150 for the programming.

Mankussm: Thanks for the links and i did not now that if the harness is there its going to make my job ALOT easier and cheaper now. Do you think the harness runs all the way to the front of the truck?

So, $400 for everything from the dealer, or $350 for everything if you do it. Sounds like I'd go to the dealer.
