My Door is Falling Off...

My Door is Falling Off...

Postby alois [OP] » Jan 21 2012, 7:02am

Hey guys,

I have recently been having a lot of wind noise on the driver's side door of my 2000 Silverado Extended Cab (3-door). The door pins were bad so I replaced them and still ended up with the noise. Upon closer inspection I noticed that the top door hinge bracket is falling off the body of the truck. The door has also fallen away from the cab and is the clear source of the wind noise. Has anyone else had a similar problem on their truck? My best guess for repair was going to be to take the door and hinge bracket off, remove the silicone off the bracket and weld it on permanently. Does anyone forsee any problems with this?

Thanks in advanced for any help

Yes, you are going to need a permanent fix to that issue. Any idea why it's pulling away? Is there rust in there somewhere?

This happens from jarring your door open, and springing it forward. That hinge plate is most likely bent. If you welded it the way it is your going to have problems still. You can buy a new a new one, which isn't that much. It's a huge PITA drilling the old one off and putting a new one on. If you cut the old one off make sure the new one lays flat and flush with the post. If the top sticks out, going to have to tap the post in. Might want to try taking the door off and use something like a railroad spike and a sledge hammer and beat the hinge back into the door post, then bend the brackets down to meet the other door's brackets. The further the hinge plate goes into the post, the more the top of the door will come in, meeting the weather strip. You'll get rid of your wind noise, then the door won't drop when you open it. Let me know if you have any problems or need any advise! Good luck!

I had to replace the door pins on my passenger door because it was no longer closing. When they were replaced the doors closed much better BUT when I got my speed up there is alot more air noise coming from that side, I haven't been able to figure out exactly where the noise is coming from.
