Need advice on a spray on bed liner

Postby txwhiskey [OP] » Feb 07 2012, 2:46am

I am getting a spray on bed liner this week. Just needs some advice before I go. What would look best over the rail or under the rail with the plastic OE caps? If you have pic pleases send. Thank you

I can tell you that if you ever put anything of size in the back of your truck, you'll want over the rail. IMO it looks really good; like it was meant to be.
Marine because.

+1 for over the rail. Line-x did mine and did a fantastic job. Definitely better than bed caps. Bed caps can hold dirt, salt, water, etc. The spray on liner seals out everything and looks like a factory application. I won't be able to get pics of mine until tomorrow afternoon, but most shops have pictures of trucks they have done that you can look at.

When I got my truck done I was just going to get under the rail since I had the oem rail caps, but when the installers went to do the prep work for the bedliner the caps were all ready coming loose. I had the truck for about 3 weeks when this happened so I just had them take the caps off and do over the rail. It might have been a simple fix like using 3m tape but I didn't want to fight with the caps and since the dealer was paying for my liner I went ahead and got over the rail. So in my opinion over the rail.

I have bed caps. That said, if I did a spray in liner, I would absolutely go over the rail. Just a cleaner look. If something ever happens to it, it's easy to touch up, too.

Well I toss you an opinion the other way. I have bed caps and I went with under the rail. I do not like the look of over the rail especially if its not matched to the paint.

I haven't done my truck yet but, I did my S10 with Herculiner "because I had no other option where I lived" and it came out real nice and I did the rails because I already had scratches from loading stuff and I never had to worry about scratches again.

I prefer over-the-rail. I went with linex this time. My last truck had some generic version of linex, and it faded bad within about a year. Here is a pic of my current truck with linex. Really, it comes down to your preferrence. Either way, spray-in is something that you'll never regret.

If you have plastic rail caps, then don't get over the rails. Actually, the bedliner dealer probably won't spray them anyway.
