Need help with 01 Silverado 1500 lift

Postby hockeycns [OP] » Jan 24 2012, 5:21pm

Hey guys I have a dilema that I need some help with.

First off I'll say that I have a 2001 Silverado 1500 4x4 5.3L extended cab short bed

Last year I bought and installed a leveling kit/block kit. The kit consisted of new torsion keys which "lifted" the front 3.5" and then 2" rear blocks.

I then bought tires (325/65/18) to compliment my Rockstar rims. Theres where the problem started, I should have gotten slightly smaller tires because they rub only when I turn going from flat to uphill.

I have recently found that Skyjacker and Superlift make 5" rear blocks which I am considering purchasing. The only problem is that I will need another 3" in the front to keep the truck level. I dont know if you can put front blocks in (I dont think so) or if i need new shocks or something. I do not have a lot of money to spend of this and $500 front suspension kits are not in my budget.

Maybe a body lift? but I dont know if you can put in only a front one on? or if I could keep my rear blocks and put one in?

If someone could give me some advice on what to do that would be great!

And please no replies like "Save up for a real lift" or "get smaller tires" or anything like that.

Thanks!
Chris

a 1.5" body lift will be your best ticket...on that suspension you cant add a block to the front and lift shocks dont work on them either...you can install a body lift exactly how you have the truck set up and yet youhave to do the whole truck other wise your bed will be 1.5" lower than your cab. but yes to answer your question you can definetly put a body lift on you have to raise everything front bumper/cap/bed but leave your back bumper where it is espically if you have dual exhaust or a hitch. because if you have these you will raise the bed and tail gate and bumper up but your pipes and hitch will stay the same making it look funny so leave your rear bumper alone and your golden my friend

I dont have an answer but the body lift sounds good to me. I was just wondering where you found a leveling kit with rear blocks. Ive been wanting to get a leveling kit but all i can find are the new torsion keys. my truck is basically level now with stock suspension but it just doesnt sit high enough for my liking. so if i jack up the front the truck will sit higher in the front and just not look right.

yea for zackattack, the kit above works for you. I was looking at the installation for the body kit and it is very intense. If i put 5" blocks in the rear instead of 2" (which is easy) how would I be able to lift the front 3"?

any suggestions or is that not probable for a reasonable price?

thats the thing with that suspension you have to buck up and take the hit on the actual lift because that front end with torsion bars gives no room for movement...a body lift is a very intense operation definetly not an easy feat you would need it to be installed lol i had a 98 with the same suspension and a 03 dodge ram with a similar suspension and i couldnt do anything to it to lift besides the bigger keys...i was cheap and never spent the money on a lift. so i took my losses....ill trade you tires cause i need bigger ones on my 07 Nbs silverado lol trade you for my 285/65/18 lol

jk...the 325 almost 35 inches tall according to this lol

Show a pic of where it is rubbing.

Thanks and yea I know thats always an option, I was trying to avoid that if I wanted to make it stock again so I can sell it and the upgrades separate. Hopefully sooner rather than later so I get a diesel
