I painted some chrome hood handles on my old Hummer. First I sanded with fine paper to get the shine off. Second scotch pads, third self etching primer. Forth, paint. Worked pretty good. They never peeled or chipped. Don't know how much you want to paint. These handles were small so it wasn't a big job.

Well, I have a 2011 1500 Crew cab Z71. I want to make everything black and white on the truck except for my exhaust tips, and the part of the grill that is attached to the hood. The piece of chrome that is under the grill, attached to the "bumper" is chrome and I want it to be black but i cant find a black piece so Im just gonna have it painted. Thats why I was asking

I'd say that you should give it a shot. I'm still a rookie when it comes to using spray-paint, but I like what StarsnBars said to do for the prep work.

If you want to paint that part on a brand new Chevy . STOP please. My handles were small and that's a lot of chrome your talking about. Best bet,,, call a few paint shops and ask them your question. Before you make a decision. My handles turned out good but your going to get a lot of weather, etc, on that grille. See what they say. Maybe Google your question, and see what you can find too. Good luck,,

That piece would look good painted. My red Z71 has that painted part. But not black. It would be a good project, but can be done. Here's a link. http://www.ehow.com/how_4422511_paint-o ... rface.html
Not to hard. A palm sander might make all that surface sanding alot easier. Black flares on white :D :D :D :D I vote leave them black. Breaks up all the white. Use some blue paint tape to hold the flares in place and stand back and take a good look, them imagine them white. Check out your fender flare post later for pic's of my black flares. See ya
