Park Assist

Park Assist

Postby ltsilverado08 [OP] » Feb 22 2014, 2:10am

I have an 08 silverado LT been adding options that come on the higher level trims such as DIC panel and soon to be leather. But i have not been able to find many options as far as GM parts on the back up sensor kit, aka park assist. Will the dealer install these or do they have to be done aftermarket?

Thanks

Amazing how things work. Some try their best to get something like park assist, while some of us hate that we spent money on it. I disabled the park assist in my 2013 within weeks of buying it new. I wanted to dump the camera also, but left if functional for the wife. I don't use it at all. Oh well, the wonder of the marketplace. Something for everyone.

There are probably aftermarket kits, but the dealer can likely install the factory system and be just as effective. The wiring harness is probably made to include all the necessary connections already, but you'll have to route the wiring appropriately through the truck, may be a bit of a hassle. Aftermarket rear-view cameras are available and can be routed as well without the sensors and the need to attach to the bumper.

I would suggest not wasting money on the park assist and save up for a rear camera, preferably factory. I have both features on my truck and very rarely pay attention to the park assist since i can see everything in the rear my self with the camera.

I gotta agree with Copperhead on this. I hate my backup assist. I disabled it a couple months after getting the truck. I never used it and it annoyed me. Anyways you might need a new bumper on top of all the wiring and stuff. You might be able to drill it out too I'm not sure. Either way good luck and I hope you like it.

Where were you looking at getting leather from?

There is a local guy who uses katzkin leather. Was looking at adding bucket seats instead of bench but cost more for buckets than to redo all my seats. Yea i have seen some of the back up cameras in the tailgate handle not sure if my truck can use that i dont see why not.BowTiePirate
