Plasti Dip Durability

Plasti Dip Durability

Postby pickardjw [OP] » Jan 16 2013, 3:46am

There are plenty of posts about "How to Plasti Dip" and what not, but I haven't seen anything about the durability of the stuff. So before I spent time dipping anything, I want to know how long its gonna be before I have to peel it off and redo the job! Anyone have any testimonies to its durability? Say on emblems, lettering, rims, grille, mirrors, and/or door handles?

Well Ive had it on my front bowtie emblem for a few months, and with all the dust, dirt, and rocks flyin at it, it still looks great, seems to be pretty durable... Ive got rock chips in my windshield so you know its getting hammered.

I did all of the lettering on my truck in March of 2012.
Still looks just like it did the day I put it on.
I have been to manual car wash about 5 or 6 times (power wash)
I usually hand wash with a hose one a week (at least)

I love it and a lot of guys spray their wheels and I've heard it has held up for several years at least.

Awesome, I have a the appearance package on my Silverado, so it has the silver door handles and like the half silver side view mirrors along with the big silver grille. I like the painted grille, but not so much the side mirrors and the door handles, I think the look better in black, so I want to dip em. My biggest concern is the door handle. The stuff is meant to peel away, so seeing as the door handle would get a lot of use, it would probably be the first to show signs deterioration.

Being handed a lot might wear the Plasti Dip faster and it may start to peel.

I have 3 sets of matt black door handles and one set of matt black mirror caps.....

I personally have seen the durability of this stuff, i think your door handles would be OK, certainly not as long a period of time, but a significant time period before re-do. My buddy dipped his 98 dodge bumper/tagging/rims, and we drag him out of more mud-holes than anyone I know. So i think that attests to the durability of the substance! :)
Hope that helps.
