I dont have a retractable cover, but i do have a soft cover that lifts. It depends on what you are going to be using your bed for, and what your personal style is all about. If you like the look of a soft cover then go for it. I know they are cheaper than fiberlgass. Do you have a brand that you are specifically looking at?

Personally, I think they are a waste of money and space. They take up too much space in the bed of the truck, make sure to check the specs of the unit you are looking at. I was looking at these when I bought mine a year ago and was completely turned off that it took almost a foot of space, plus it was almost $200 higher than the Trifecta I ended up bringing home!

Best of luck!

The pace edward yankees shows the canister not taking up a lot of space the trifold takes up more but there expensive and I don't like how they break it into 3 piece when u buy them the cover, the rails and the clamps but I'm looking at a used one

TruckCoversUSA claims to have the smallest canister at only 8" x 8". Here are retractable covers:

Re: Retractable Tonneau Cover

Postby BIG E » Mar 10 2011, 8:00pm

I've seen the pace edwards on a 2004 silverado. It does take up some of the bedspace, but he had the fullsize bed (not a crew cab) so it wasn't that big of an issue. I have done some research on the roll-n-lock covers and I like them okay, but am still unsure if I want to spend that much on a cover.

I think all these covers have many of the same issues as other cover - they tend to leak a bit and the track system doesn't work as well over time (alignment issues and such).

Hope that helps
