Splash Guards

Postby miker701 [OP] » Feb 26 2012, 7:48am

My daughter and I were at the Honda dealer getting the oil changed on the accord, and for some reason there was a Chevy dealer staring me in the face from across the street. It didn't take long to find the parts department and come walking out with a cardboard box.
I just got the rear guards on tonight and they look great. Had to jack each side up one at a time and throw a jackstand underneath, remove the wheel, mark the holes, drill them out, and then use the provided screws to fasten them on. Pretty easy job overall. I took my time with the drill bit using plenty of oil, and after 8 holes the bit is still good. I also oiled the tip of each screw before threading it in, and hand tightened each one to avoid stripping with the drill. The fronts are already drilled with screws from the factory so that should be a quick job in the morning.

Very nice. Well done!
I still cannot believe these are not standard. How do ya have a truck without mud flaps (or wheel liners for that matter). C'mon, GM.

Excellant Choice. I installed the Chevy front and rear splash guards than added the GM rear fender liners. I agree with Eric. Its too bad that these accessories are not standard equipment on a $30k+ new truck.

Yeah I was surprised too. Seems like a bit of a necessity on a truck. They aren't too bad at the dealership though. I paid $108 after tax for all 4. The rear 2 have the gold bowtie and the fronts are plain. Despite needing a bit of work to install they fit very nicely and seem durable enough to do the job.

While I like your Splash Guards I didn't want to drill into my new truck. Living in Wisconsin with all the salt they use on the roads is hard enough to keep rust from starting. I bought a set of Weather Tech No-drill mud flaps. They look a lot like the GM flaps but not drilling. Very easy to install, no tire removal and no drilling. All four took less than 20 minutes to install. Total cost $90.00.

Have you had any trouble with the front tires rubbing against the splash guards? Particularly the left wheel... I am having this issue. The right wheel doesn't rub at all, but the left wheel rubs every time I reverse with the wheels facing to the left.

Nope, not at all. Plus I have since installed a 2" leveling kit and still no issues. Seems odd.
