tailgate open warning light-buzzer

Postby allterrainjoe [OP] » Feb 21 2012, 3:47pm

Anyone know if there is something like this around.Yesterday on the job site one of my guys took something out of my tool bag and left it sitting on the open tailgate.I did not notice that he had done this and left to get gas, luckily it was not to far.As I pumped the gas I seen the gate open and everything was still there. This has happened before thats why I was looking for something like this.( and yes he was talked to :D :D )

sounds like a good idea for an invention!!! patent that haha but you could make one out of a back up alarm or something of that nature? it would only need somehting like a door switch to make work

Just lock your tailgate, then no one will be in there without you knowing

Unfortunately that would create more problems than it would solve, someone would have my keys or I would have to be available for the odd employee to get access to my truck for a tool they forgot or don`t have .

All you need is a door ajar swich power and a buzzer. I think it'd be super easy to do!

Edit:
It sounds crazy I know but, these are genius! They have a sleeve so when you close the door/tailgate for the first time they self adjust super easy to use!

If you could find a GM branded one It'd be even better

Great idea....definitely not patentable as Mike suggests but a great DIY project for a random weekend. Maybe this feature will make it into that 2013 model we've all heard so much about but never seen.

Its similarity to a door switch used forever may define it as prior art or obvious to those experienced in the field. However if yo can narrow things down you may be able to make it unique enough to get through the patent examiner. But the fees are a killer. Figure about $5K for a patent attorney.

yeah and how many are in market for a tailgate buzzer lol! but instead of tail gate buzzer bec that would be annoying it could be somethign that when you turn your ignition on and put in drive it beep s like a door being open and says tailgate down and you could push once to ignore or it would remind you

If you had park assist you would know. If I leave the gate down it beeps when I go into reverse or says it's disabled when in drive.
