Truck bed cover

Truck bed cover

Postby thenutter [OP] » Dec 23 2010, 3:19am

So my day at the junkyard only turned up a new dual tone horn, however my later venture led me to net a tonnue cover for my Silverado for the low price of $180.(Thanks craigslist) It is an astro bed cover, fiberglass with some damage on the ends but nothing that goes all the way through. And of course it is silver (why wouldn't it be the same color as my wifes TB instead of my green Silverado).

The weight helps control a lot of the bounce I had in the rear so the ride is much less spine destroying. And hopefully the fuel savings come in.

Yeah this trip to the junkyard unfortunaly did not turn up any truck over 99', but it taught me a valuable lesson to do the research on what works from what years. I went mostly for some trim pieces and my fog light enclosure. I wouldn't mind a new rear end and some improved suspension stuff. I want to go one of these days and just work on taking things apart. I did score a dual tone horn off of a F**d Ambulance, and tried to grab some flashing lights but I ran out of time. Really makes me wish I had my dream 87 Suburban, tons of those there.

Nice find! I love hard tonneau covers and plan on getting the BakFlip HD for my truck when I have the extra cash.

Yeah I was pretty happy, it has some damage and I need adhesive for the gasket, but all in all a great price. And maybe I will try to fix the fiberglass and paint it.

Shouldn't be to hard to get a light bondo on it with some light sanding, then drop it off at a paint shop and it will look like new.

I know autozone has fiberglass repair kits, not sure how difficult those are to use. It is all just a matter of time and money. And since I am going off for another three weeks of training in Colorado in Janurary, it can wait.
