Wax over Factory Body Decals?..Chrome 'Protectant'?

Postby dan61psu [OP] » Sep 12 2011, 2:42am

Getting ready to apply a healthy pre-winter waxing to my new (well, 2500 miles old) Silverado...

Ive never owned a car with body decals, so...

Is it OK to wax right over the decals or will this deteriorate them in any way?

Also, is there any sort of 'protectant' you can use on chrome? I was thinking that I have seen alot of faded chrome grills and bumpers on trucks on the road (aging I guess)....but I'd like to keep mine bright and flashy as long as possible. Wax is obviously not going to do the trick. Any suggestions?

Thanks all!

I have always waxed right over the decals. Just make sure you get off any residual wax at the edge of the decal.
Also, I've always waxed chrome, too.

Absolutely. I've done it for years. I prefer Meguiar's NXT wax.

Wax makes chrome shine just a little more. I have always waxed chrome after using chrome polish. Also wax my windows.

I just use a good chrome cleaner like Eagle One, Flitz or Wenol.
Been doing this for years and it had kept my chrome nice and shiny, even in winter where they like to throw out tons of salt.
