Wheel well liner install question

Postby Court [OP] » Feb 10 2012, 1:28am

For those of you that have installed liners, that opted to NOT use the tek screws. Have you had any problems? I'm installing them tomorrow and not diggin the idea of shooting those cheap galvanized screws into my fender wells.

I didn't use any screws in mine and took it to Vegas. A 300 mile one way trip from where I live and it stayed on just fine. Now I have molded mud guards on my truck to keep it from getting stolen.

The liner fits very snug. Actually its a bit of struggle popping it in there. I thought about not using them to, but did. Haven't had any issues with them. Liner hasnt moved or shifted at all. I added a couple extra screws with washers just to make sure.

Didn't use the screws myself, no problems so far, though I haven't had them in very long. They will fit snug like other people have said...I can't imagine them ever causing a problem.

I used the supplied screws adding Stainless Steel washers, I also added a dab of RTV to the pre drilled holes before I installed the screws and finished by applying some more silicone RTV to the back side of the screws to help seal from the elements. I like others had reservations on drilling holes in my truck and the pain was increased by the fact that it was brand new. But I wanted them to stay put and feel I will never have an issue with them or the holes.

Thanks for the input. What do you think, does my truck need the 2" drop and liners I'm doing tomorrow? I will post the "after" pics when done.

The supplied self tapers will not rust and had sealer on the self tapping part of the screws. You can leave the tires on, just jack up one side at a time and the the suspension droop and that will give you sufficient clearance for the install.
For the rear leveling you can go with Beltech's 2.4" kit. It levels the truck perfectly. Fair warning its not easy swapping out the rear shackles but its worth it. You also have to remove the blocks between the axle and spring and re-use the stock ubolts with the supplied spacers in the kit. If you have a hitch it will need to be removed for the installation then re- installed. Most every bolt was 21mm but have a good assortment of metric wrenches and sockets. You will need a deepwell 21mm for sure. Took me 2hrs. in the driveway.

I like my rear dropped. It was the first thing I did.

Here is a pic after the shackle drop and liners. I think it looks much nicer. I didn't shoot the screws yet.
