How to Cabin Air Filter 99-02

Postby evensteven3 [OP] » Jan 05 2012, 7:26pm

Location: Behind the kick plate on the passenger side

*7mm and 9mm sockets are required for installation

1 Open passenger side door.
2 Remove 4 screws from kick plate cover underneath glove box. Take off the cover.
3 The door to the filter is now visible. To unhinge door, remove screw.
4 Remove first filter by pulling it straight down. Slide second filter forward and and pull down to remove.
5 Replace filter with (Puro: c15388, Wix: 24805, ATP: GA-4, Hast: AF1114, Fram: CF8791, GKI: CF1012) Cabin air filter
6 Reattach door. Reattach kick plate cover.
7 Properly dispose of used filter

Notes: I recommend laying down a towel or something to catch the dirt that falls out with the filter.

I just changed the Cabin Air Filters in my wife's '02 2500HD. The 4 screws holding the kick plate cover were 7mm and the 1 screw holding the filter door was 5.5mm.
Before I took the door off I set the fan blower setting to the "floor only" setting. Once the filters were taken out I turned the fan on for a few seconds to blow out the chamber, then I installed the new filters, then reattached the door and kick plate cover.
You're right about the to catch the debris.
Thanks for the write up.

I removed the kick panel the other day to replace the cabin filter, but the area where the manual showed the access panel would be was solid. No fastener, no removeable portion. I think my other option would be to drop the fan motor and vacuum out the interior of the ducting and fan.

I think mine were something like $14.99 at Autozone.

Just did this on my dad's 99 as a thank you for letting me borrow it. Super easy to do and made a huge difference! I will say that I got away with only taking 2 screws out on the kick panel, which was a relief because my dad has the center console w/air vents in the back.

Learn from my mistake. My '01 doesn't have a kick panel to remove - and I didn't see the 7/32" (~5.5mm) head screw holding down the back of the filter retainer. In popping off the filter retainer I broke the screw mount - we'll see if superglue ever holds the broken plastic back in place - I have my doubts.
