Sorry it took me so long to post this. I had a few other issues I had do deal with on my truck. Gotta keep my baby happy ;)

Anyway, here we go!

First thing you want to do is unplug the negative battery cable and make sure your A/C is turned OFF before you start!! You dont want to ruin this little gem since it costs money.

Once you have the battery unplugged. move the passenger seat all the way back to give yourself some room.

After you get the new part installed, there will be a learning period so be patient. I started my car and let it idle while i reprogrammed my aftermarket stereo (about 5 mins). then I turned on the A/C to blast on both side of my dual climate control unit. passenger side was blowing hot. Turned a/c off and turned car off, then turned key to on position and waited a second. Then started my ride. A/C started blowing cold on both side. Took about 8 mins I think. didnt really look at time. anyway, learning period was complete. no actual clue how I did it.

Lets begin, shall we!! :D

Sorry to pop in here, just to clarify, this is the driver side temperature actuator and the easiest out of 4 actuators. The recirculation door actuator is sitting a bit higher to the right, the mode door actuator is accessible from the driver side and the passenger side temperature actuator (my favourite) is on top of the heater box and a real pleasure to replace ;)

Thanks! that's good information to know. i believe I had the one above my heater box replaced several year ago so I am set on that one too. A shop did it for me. When I replaced this one, my A/C did not have any more problems blowing cold on passenger side and heat on the driver side. So this DIY shows you how to fix that if those are the symptoms you have.

also I noticed before I replaced it, when the a/c was going in and out, the ac on the driver's side would blow cold but kinda faint. then it would blow really cold and weak again. like the door was swinging halfway. anyway, its a done deal and no more a/c problems. its been a week now :D

Here's a tip guys I learned from one of my techs. EZRED sells a tool called 4s12. This is your best friend to change those hard to reach actuators. He shows me and says your gonna want one of these when you need to change your actuators. It is 1/4 drive swivel head ratchet and 6 pt 1/4 for putting bits in it.

Hi, Im new to the forums. I have a question about the HVAC problem.
I have a 2006 Sierra Auto 4.8L W/T. I disconnected the battery.
Reconnected, now the drivers side blows hot air, but the pass side is cold, and the controls for the pass side work.
Ive tried many different relearn procedures to no avail. The drivers side always blows hot now.

What happened by disconnecting the battery, that now the hot/cold wont work now?
thanks

Robert

Fixed. Here is how:

I disconnected the negative battery terminal for about 10-15 min.
Then I set the blower knob on #1.
Then set the driverside climate slide to the middle(between hot and cold setting).
Then reconnected the neg battery terminal.
I turned the key on, but didnt crank the engine.
(you can then hear the hvac system relearning itself).
First it will blow air out the defrost vents,
then it will blow out tge floor vents,
Now, when you start to feel air coming from the regular dash vents, crank the truck up.
Then just set the driver side temp slude back to cold.

This is what I had to do to get my cold air working on the driverside.
I hope this helps someone who was frustrated like I was.
Maybe the software in my truck needs an update?
build date is 01/06.

btw my truck has 143k miles on it.

I did it a little different than that but it worked out ok. Sounds good to me. At least everyone who see this will know how to do it. Good add-in!

Not to sound like the uneducated one here, but if I'm correct, all 4 of these actuators are the same part number right? My issue is I only have heat on both sides, no A/C since the end of this past summer. I have the digital climate control & Leave it on 90 for heat. If I put it down to 85, it feels like it's cooler than that. I'm thinking that I need to replace the one for the mode door? Any input its appreciated.

Yes....you are correct. There is 4 of them. The other two are sitting higher in the dash. The ones that i replaced, however did correct my issue i was having. If you want to replace all four, go ahead. I found that just the two in the bottom usually will solve your issue so start with those. Not to mention the are easy to get in an out.

Timely information (well, 2013 - but good resurrect) - thank you. I'll try the battery disconnect first (thank rob0216). If all that fails, I have an excuse for yet another tool. :D

(Just to update the symptoms: blower, suddenly, didn't work at all. No warning, no nada. After trying to figure it out (looking at fuses - all good), the blower worked, but only the windshield air - defrost. This started about a week or 2 ago).

Resurrecting an old thread!

I have the same hot/cold issue with my 09 Sierra. I just changed the actuator on the driver side but cannot find any info on the web about how many there are and what they control. I found one more on the passenger side but it looks like it does the same thing as the driver side one.

My issue is the driver side never blows colder than 70 degrees. The same temp setting allows the passenger to go to almost 40!

Anyone have any info for the NNBS trucks??
