2011 Silverado Stock Radio USB question

Postby 11Silverado [OP] » Apr 11 2011, 1:11am

How many songs can this USB port handle and what type of files. I got 256GB flash drive and I threw about 120ish songs I had already on my computer on it. It read it just fine. Today I RIPPED my CDS and threw them on the flash drive in a mp3 format. The truck said reading USB and then said communication corrupt. It will read the drive on any of my 3 PCs. Its set to rip at MP3 at 192kbps.. I tried 1 song and it didn't even work. I threw some of those older songs I had on my PC on there and it read them.. so what am I doing wrong? CDs protected somehow?!

Sounds like some of your CD's have the encoded protection. I transfered around 250 songs to a 4 gig flash and didnt have any problems. From the newest Nickleback to the oldest Led Zeplin. I used Windows Media to transfer and selected all formats.

What program are you using to rip the CD's? Is it the same program used to rip the music that does work on the USB stick?

well the manual says it will support 700 folders, 8 folders deep and 65,535 files in .mp3 or .wma.

Wonder if there is a reset of some sort on the UBS port?!

It sounds like your flash drive took a dump. Try picking up a new one . Around $12 for a 4 gig these days. I just used media player, no problems.

Ok. First verify that you can access your flash drive in your computer. If you can access it, format it. This will restore your flash drive to original condition. Second verify your music files, if they have copy protection or DRM protection they will not play in any radio. Third verify that copy protection are not enabled in windows media player, check that in rip options. If you need an excellent ripper check this: http://www.audiograbber.org/

I know I'm waking up a dead thread, but I've made some conclusions on these USB headunits.

* They will handle up to a 384 kbp file format, as for point of reference Windows Media encoding caps out at 192 kbp in native wma form.
* They do not like partitions formatted with larger sector size allocation. Example, It will fail with a flash drive formatted as FAT32 with 32k allocation size, while the same flash drive will work fine with an 8K allocation size.
* The faster the unit the better, I've been using patriot xporter units because of their speed rating. The greater the rate the audio has been encoded, the greater the speed of the drive needs to be.
* I have not yet concluded exact drive size max or file count max, I've found conflicting information for both. Presently I've been using a 32GB unit with ~600+ CD's of content encoded at 192 kbp and had no issues with size or buffering.

I would like to understand ALL of the limits of these units, so I can use mine to take over THE WORLD!
