Adding Homelink to my 04 Sierra

Adding Homelink to my 04 Sierra

Postby Joel_CA [OP] » Sep 23 2011, 4:00am

So I was at pick & pull the other day and I picked up an overhead console that was already pulled off the vehicle. It looked the same as the console I already have but it had Homelink (which is what I was looking for) and a sunroof switch. It was labeled to fit a 2004 Silverado or Sierra so I assumed it would fit my truck (04 Sierra) plug and play. When i got home, I went straight to my truck to check the fit. Sadly, the console was a bit smaller (from front to back) than my existing console. It wouldn't work as it would leave exposed roof areas that the headliner didn't cover.

So after careful measuring, i took the Homelink unit off of the wrong console and carefully installed it onto my existing console. I had to carefully grind out the 3 holes for the buttons (using a drawn out template made from the other console

From there, I mounted the unit onto the top of the pocket using black screws and speed nuts then carefully wired it into the existing console harness.

I programmed it and tested its operation and am pretty happy overall with how it came out. Here's how it looks from the drivers seat:
