Airbag light reset.

Postby codysown [OP] » Dec 02 2012, 11:39pm

I went through the car wash a few weeks ago and my air bag light came on. Nothing happened, no dents, bumps or bruises. I was in the vehicle when it went through.

I have disconnected the battery for an hour or so and that did not work. I am unable to find anything other than "take it to the dealer". There has to be a way to reset this damn thing other than to pay the dealer a $120 to plug it in hit 2 buttons and then drive it out. And I am sure they will have it for 2 days before they tell me they can't find anything wrong.

How do I fix this?

I just got my front impact sensor replaced on Friday, and my cousin had his done a month ago. Seems to be a common problem.

They quoted me $250.00, what did you end up paying to have it fixed?

Sometimes a parts store will have the fancy scanners that read and clear ABS, air bag, and check engine lights. But most do not, I've just happened to find a couple here in Houston who did though.

I have an extended warranty, so I only paid $100. Would have been $200 parts and labor without it. My cousin paid $400 at another dealer, but his was the passenger's side and out of warranty.

Air bag is something that must be serviced by a dealer. It's too big of a safety risk.

If the airbag light does go on, it is best to have it serviced by a dealership. Please keep us posted. If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know. I hope everyone is having a good week despite any truck issues. Thank you.

Mine is on. Still on i think. I fixed it by placing a piece of electrical tape right smack over it. I just can't get over how soft we've become as a society. Kind of makes you wonder how we all survived before airbags.

I still prefer my 94 s10 and my 85 Ramcharger that don't have air bags. Personally, it's a lot of crap that I've been fine with before my Silverado.
