backup camera guide lines?

backup camera guide lines?

Postby YancyK [OP] » Mar 27 2013, 4:10pm

this is a question for the guys that have factory navi and a backup camera on 2011 trucks. I have a 2011 gmc denali 1500 and bought it with navi but no backup camera. I bought the factory camera kit and installed it and had a dealer program
the navi unit. My truck doesnt have guidance lines, is it supposed to? Is there a programming process that the lines need
to be calibrated to? I am going to take it to the dealer soon and don't want to sound like a complete idiot. Thanks everyone. :D

I have a 2012 Sierra with the factory back-up cam in with the display in the rear view mirror... There are no guidelines on my picture either. I'm wondering why as well....

Someone correct me if I'm wrong. The guidelines are tied to the camera, not the monitor.

I bought the Pyle BU camera from amazon... this was in the product description...

"Built-in Distance Scale Lines
This camera displays "distance lines” on your monitor, clearly marking how far you are from visible obstacles. That way you can be sure how close objects are to you, letting you drive safe and secure in the knowledge that you won’t run some kid over."

I'm pretty sure I had the option to have the "distance lines" on how the camera was wired. I don't remember the details.

I don't know either, but if I had to guess it only comes with the large screen nav/radio unit. We have a few other vehicles with the cameras in the mirror, and they don't have the lines--that would be a lot to see in that little space.
My lines also turn and move when the wheel is turned. Keep us posted on what you find out--I would first ask if the lines come in the mirror systems, then go from there...

I work for a company that makes mirrors with the back-up display. Guidelines are put in at the customer's request. If an OEM wants them, we have to lay a pattern out on the floor and take a screen shot of the image. We then "write" the guidelines into the software. They are specific to the camera model and location.

Some OEMs want the guidelines to be permanent, others want them to be selectable. If yours was installed by the factory or dealer, try pressing the on/off button while in reverse. The guidelines might just be turned off. I'll ask the GM team tomorrow how the mirrors are set-up for our trucks.

I'm guessing the navi displays have similar programming. It's pretty rare for an aftermarket set-up to have guidelines. If they do provide a camera, they often change suppliers... so the guidelines would be off every time they changed cameras. Mito might be an exception. They often sell the OEM kit.

The nav interface kit (part number part number 250-8569-NAV) manufactured at Rostra Precision Controls has parking gridlines overlaid onto the video feed by default, but vehicle owners can disable them by snipping a small loop cable built into the camera.

update. I went to the dealer to have this checked out and had some other stuff looked at. The service advisor said that the camera was working correctly and that only the caddys have the lines on the camera. So there ya go, no guideance lines.

I know this is an old thread but the service advisor is wrong. A guy I work with here has the mirror system and it has guidelines on his Silverado. A friend of ours has a freakin Chevy Equinox with the backup camera and it has guidelines....have seen both in person.

My father had a 2010 equinox with the camera and backup lines that bend as you backup and turn. Last year he traded it in on a 2013 Traverse and has the exact same setup.
