New to the forum...I've looked around on the internet, and even through these forums with no luck, sorry if I missed it
A few weeks ago my center console latch broke and now I can't latch the lid. I have an 09 Silverado with the jump seat. It's the latch on the console you raise up for the 3rd seat, not the lower console latch.
Does anyone know if there is a part number for this? The dealer told me I would have to buy the whole lid to just to replace the latch, over $170 (which I might add is only a piece of plastic with 2 screws). The words I used to express my disappointment is nothing I care to post on any forum
It's number 7 on the attached photo. The site I got this off of had EVERY part listed except for that one. If I don't find a replacement soon I'll be "Red Neckin'" it so it will latch. It may not look pretty but I will get it to latch
Welcome to the forum. I did a search on gmpartsdirect.com and found the latch you are looking for, but you have to put in your info for a price. Hope this helps. I can't imagine that it should be any more than a few dollars. It is under the seats section.
Really tired of this & seems that many are having the same problem. Had similar problem on my 01, my 04 and now my 09 with the 40/20/40. Can't find any aftermarket latches and not really interested in spending 200 beans on a complete lid.
I have a proto-typing company down the street looking at it right now to see if they can make me a stack of them for a reasonable price. Was also thinking of having my buddy (machinist) design a new spring loaded one instead if it doesn't work out.
Will sell the extras if I can get it done reasonably.
I looked into having these latches made it sucks you can not buy them from the dealer. If the cost of getting a mold made was not $5000 I would have done it. It is a big problem and spending over $100 on a lid just for the latch is a waste.
this is a picture of bracket that was super glued back together and then this bracket mounts to plastic to keep it together.
should be less likely to break again with support
I broke my latch as well and was not thrilled when the dealer told me I'll just have to spend $150.00 for the new console cover. I borrowed "allmopar"s idea and made my own reinforcement bracket out of .060 aluminum. You can find it at most Hobby shops and hardware stores. I roughed the bracket and then JB welded all the parts together. Make sure you scuff up all the surfaces so you get a good bond. I then added the 2 4-40 hex screws for reinforcement. It works great!
I hope this helps!
To all of ya'll out there who have broken latch for upper jump set lid. I just pm Matt at gm customer service with write up to see if there is any way to get the latch sold seperately. I'll let ya'll know if this goes anywhere. I recently purchased my lid latch combo replacement, I mentioned that it seemed greedy for gm not to offer simple cheap plastic latch, instead of the cost of the whole combo. This is probably a waste of time but worth trying.
Does anyone think that it would be a good idea to be proactive and just add the aluminum to it now before it breaks, or should I just wait until it does?
Its worth trying because if you use it much its going to break, mine lasted only about 3 years, be careful when you modify it, not to break it while adding the metal.
And the answer to my PM to GM customer service was:the part is not available, you have to buy the lid and the latch combo! Greedy! Greedy! Greedy!
Might have to do a redneck fix and get out some Velcro! LOL
