Cold air coming in - pass side foot area

Cold air coming in - pass side foot area

Postby SignGuy [OP] » Jan 04 2012, 2:45pm

I just got my 02 Silverado extendo cab 4x4 and LOVE IT! Over Christmas break we drove to Missoula and we got cold air coming in on the right side dash down to the feet. I ended up stuffing a towel up there to block it. Anyone got any idea about a vent over there that I can plug or what to look for? I also opened up the glove box and everything inside was really cold so it must be in the dash area by where the blower motor is. Any help I'd appreciate it.

If you honk the horn with the vehicle all closed up, do you hear the sound at the right side?

I'm not sure but I'll give it a shot tonight when I get home. Not sure how that's related but I'm game for anything.

Air will leak in the same areas as sound so if you actually hear the sound at the right side of your dash, then it is possible you have an air leak where wire harnesses or housings bolt or go through your firewall on the right side. If you don't, then you may have an air leak around your right side door. See?

I'll have to get some of those little bottles of bubbles & hold the little wand when driving to see where the bubbles start, then fill the hole with expanding foam or flubber!

This looks like the info I needed to find - Cold air into passenger side wife's feet freezing!
From that technical bulletin I should be able to fix it. Thanks for everyone's help.

I had the exact same issue with my 91 Silverado before I traded it in. Never did find the cause.

I'm gonna find it and fix it. I'll most likely take photos so the next guy can fix it too. I did that the last time I installed a cruise control on my Tacoma, folks love that kinda thing. :-)

Gordon,

I did the horn treatment with my with the wife sitting in the passenger side (she can hear, I can't). She didn't notice any louder noise than anywhere else in the cab. I think I'll have to do the removal of the wiper blade plastic area and do this service bulletin http://ww2.justanswer.com/uploads/Blueg ... senger.pdf
