does your truck have coat hooks?

I just noticed I don't have rear coat hooks in ext cab.

does your truck have coat hooks?

Postby KingSilveradoZ71 [OP] » Oct 19 2010, 7:34pm

I purchased my '10 silverado ext cab about two weeks ago and I just noticed I don't have coat hooks. I asked the dealer and apparently I'm the first one to point that out to them. One of the salesman told me he thinks the crew cabs come with them. I looked and from GM website they show that rear coat hooks are suppose to be standard on the ext cab. Can some members chime in if they have coat hooks and possibly post a pic so I can show the parts department what I'm looking for (and what model truck).

Thanks!

My 2009 Sierra Ext cab has them integrated with the "oh-sh*t" grab handles above the rear doors.

Thank you both for your replies. The pics look perfect, I will take some pics of mine, I don't have the intergrated coat hook. I feel jipped! Is there anyone out there with a 2010 silverado 1500 ext cab that DOES have these intergrated hooks?

Isn't that little tab the coat hook? Usually they are intergrated into the grab handle like mentioned above.

I have a 2010 LTZ ext cab and mine are exactly like the above, except no coat hook lol. I never even noticed it until you said something though haha

updater... anyone that is interested in having coat hooks stay tunned. I will post pics, part number, etc of the proper assist handles that have the coat hook included, I did my own digging around and found what I was looking for. Every dealer I called said it wasn't available or had to be custom made.....

Re: does your truck have coat hooks?

Postby KingSilveradoZ71 [OP] » Oct 25 2010, 5:53am

as promised...

First thing, it seems that extended cabs do not come with coat hooks integrated on the rear assist handles. I went to a local dealer and looked at all the trucks on the lot, and found every crew cab had them while the extended cabs did not. With that said the part # for the rear assist handles that seem to come standard on crew cabs is: 25836768.
The dimensions are identical, have same mounting bolt pattern, and pretty much a direct replacement. I tend to be a perfectionist, so I cut two thin lines about half inch each to make the new handle fit perfectly flush. I mounted the handle before cutting these lines, and when tightening I noticed the plasitc behind the coat hook caused it to be raised slightly when pressing against the headliner. If you don't mind that, you don't need to do anything, just remove the old handle, and bolt on the new one.

This should take 5 minutes per side. (no cutting)
If you cut the headliner take your time.
Shouldn't take more than 30 minutes even if you are as careful as me.

Only tool required was a 8mm socket, I recommend 6pt.
Optional tool would be a very tiny flat head or needle to pop the cover to expose the bolts. (If your nails are strong you can pop the cover)

1. Pop the cover.
2. Remove two bolts using socket wrench.
3. Pull downward on both ends of the handle (I had to figure this out, wondering whether or not I was about to ruin my headliner. As seen in the picture, the handles have what I would call plastic anchors)
4. Cut the thin lines in the headboard if you choose, just be very careful. (I don't know if there are any wires running but you wouldn't want to cut something!)
5. Align the plastic anchors with the unthreaded holes and push both ends in evenly.
6. Re-install the 8mm bolts, don't overtighten. (I tend to do that, I always have to remind myself)
7. Close the covers, and that's it, you now have coat hooks.

The before pics were taken during the day, I did the swap at night so those are dark, I was using a flash light. The finished product looks factory, and the way the extended cab should've come standard IMO.

I didn't take a picture of the new coat hook bottom showing why the 2 thin lines may need to be cut, but if anyone is interested let me know. The dealer had one handle sent from another local dealer, but I had to order a second one which is coming from TN. I should have that one in a week, so if needed I'll take a pic so you guys can see what I am talking about.

LOVE THIS TRUCK!

Just in case anyone tries to order from your local dealer, part number is correct.... I went through a lot of trouble to get this, here is a pic of the box, not a typo. I really wanted my coat hooks so it was worth my time :)
