Door Rattle

Door Rattle

Postby CabinDweller [OP] » Mar 03 2012, 3:05am

My 2012 Silverado has a rattle in the driver's door already. It sounds like it is inside the plastic door panel back near where the front door meets the rear door. Any ideas?

You paid a lot of money for a new truck with a warranty. I'd let the dealer screw with it.

I have an extended cab and the drivers side top latch of the rear door needs a little extra push to get it to fully latch as compared to the passenger side. I've tried a little lithium but need a tube to aim at at the bottom of the latch mechanism. If that doesn't help, off to the dealer.

Thanks guys. I'll check the latch. When I take it in for it's first oil change, I'm going to have the dealer look at it.

Make sure you drive around with the service writer so that you can ensure they hear the sound.

It could quite possibly be the rear seat belts are just tapping against the plastic of the door? My 2011 extended cab does this, and so far just to avoid the rattling, I keep my rear seat belts plugged into their sockets. If it's not the seat belts, I'd take it in to the service guys...

Sometimes people overlook the small stuff, thinking things are more serious than they actually are. Just some food for thought.

I tried buckling the rear seat belts. That wasn't it. Thanks for the idea though.

It definitely sounds like a light (but not quiet) metallic rattle behind the door skin.

Definitely take it to the dealer if you want to pop the panel - incredibly annoying/expensive mistake when those break on accident.

Does it rattle all the time, also does it continue across all speeds? I had a rattle from 20-35 in my 2010 ext cab fairly consistently for a couple days, turned out to be the top latch also.

My 2011 rattles in where the doors meet as well when I go over uneven pavement. Any new solutions on what the fix may be? Not sure if anyone has made it to the dealer yet regarding this
