Install Aftermarket Alarm

Postby jparsons8807 [OP] » Aug 18 2010, 12:35pm

I have a 2007 silverado classic. I was just wondering if anyone could give me some guidance on how to install a python 991 aftermarket alarm in my truck. I am currently stationed in Germany with the U.S. Army and i took my truck to a german auto shop and they claim that my truck is too advanced for an aftermarket alarm, but i know they just dont know how to work on an american car, so it looks like i will be installing this one on my own. Any help would be great! Thanks!

While I have no experience with these after market systems I am aware that many will cause nothing but problems with the trucks electronics. If its not done properly or you use the wrong type of equipment you can find yourself with a lot of problems. Some of these systems will fight with the trucks electronics and may disable the vehicle under the right conditions or cause other weird anomalies.

Make darn sure the system you buy is specifically designed to be used with the year, make and model you have. Some can be more trouble than you can imagine.

It is just a keyless entry/alarm right? How can that mess with the electronics of the vehicle, unless you are an idiot and have no idea what you are doing, every aftermarket system out there is a stand alone unit, meaning if it is hooked up correctly it is just piggy backing the stock electrical. And your truck is not to advanced for just an alarm, let me know what you need exactly and I can hook you up. You only have about a dozen or so wires you have to connect to the ignition harness, pretty simple.

I assume "should I say that " you have installation manual ? If not looks like it can be downloaded here
http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/dow ... erm=python

Scroll down to number 17 for your unit number. Being a classic it is the older body style, I used to have a full featured alarm that did everything and didn't have any problems. There are wiring manuals out there that will tell you what color wires do what. Always use a volt meter and NOT a simple light to find hot wires. The light will light with voltage OR voltage going through it. We hooked up the electric windows and door locks in the factory wiring harness. I would make sure you have any options you need for everything you wanted to work and would study the wiring harness of your truck and be familar where and how your alarm will connect to these. Factory service manual will show you how to tear down without breaking things. Take your time.. Hope this helps..
Thank you
Ken
