Insulation in door opening...

Insulation in door opening...

Postby Silverado2011 [OP] » Mar 26 2011, 9:32pm

Hey guys,

I just bought a new 2011 Silverado 1500 a few weeks ago, and have a question related to the insulation that is basically inside of the driver and passenger door openings. I have attached a picture of what I am talking about and circled the insulation I am speaking of in red (I happened to come across this pic in a post by Burls, sorry to hi-jack it! It saved me from having to take a pic of mine though!). Basically my question is why is it there and is it going to cause premature rust in that area? After driving in wet conditions or washing the truck, the insulation (especially the bottom piece) is soaking wet. Seems to me that this is just a moisture trap that will lead to rusting in that area. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

I have it in my 2010, too. And, it's that way on my wife's 2008 Acadia. Not sure about rust, but it has to be that way by design--too coincidental otherwise.

i actualy spray water down there to get rid of dirt and prevent rust. i believe that insolation is for wind noise reduction.

It's there to reduce some engine noise and air noise from the body. I am also concerned about rust issues but on my 2004, it still looks good in there. Every spring I flush it out with clean water.

Thanks for the replies guys. I guess I will just have to keep up on flushing it out to make sure salt, mud, and debris don't build up. A good coat of wax in there should help too. These are the things I lose sleep over at night! haha
