Lights burned out: Door panel, some radio button, switch lights, all are burned out

Interior Lights

Postby VegasRado [OP] » Jan 25 2010, 3:12am

Greetings to all Silvers and Gmrs ! I found this site by accident. Glad I did. I never thought there would be one like this so now I'm a member !!

I have bought 2, 2001s right off the showroom floor. One I gave to my brother the Pewter one, and I keep the Green one. Both 4xs, both extended cabs with all the HD packages, except mine because I could not wait came without OnStar ( have not really missed it ).

I love my truck and with my maintaince schedule have not really replaced much over the years except tires, battery, fuel pump and now this week, my water pump just started leaking. Not to bad for what 9 years. This has been a great truck, I hope all of you have had the same little repairs.

Now for my question ?

I have different lights burned out in my cab ! some of the radio buttons now do not show, my 4x4 selector does not show, some door panel lights are burned out ( window switch, lock etc., can or do these have bulbs that can be replaced ??

Thanking you in advance,

Douglas

p.s. If the componets need to be replaced so they will light up, go ahead and tell me, I can take it !?!?

I would make a list of the lights that need replaced and call a Chevy dealership to see if any of the bulbs are available. I would assume that if the bulbs were for sale, they would be replaceable. If they aren't available, you might have to purchase the whole assembly.

If you have a lot of patience, there is another option. Remove the item that houses the bad bulb(radio, switch, interior light) and take it apart. Almost everything with a light in it will be made of plastic, and the plastic pieces are usually just snapped together or have small screws somewhere. If you have a small screwdriver set, you can (carefully) pry the plastic pieces apart at the snaps to expose the bulb. Be careful with switches or anything with moving parts because they usually have little springs and small parts that are easily dropped. I know this from experience!

Light bulbs usually have some sort of identification on them, and this is where the internet search begins! Even if a dealership can't get a light bulb for you, they might still have a part number or manufacturer information.

Good Luck!

Sorry to tell you Vegas, but you are going to have to replace the entire assembly. they are not made to be taken apart. i am sure if you look on ebay, you can find those parts rather cheap or go to a junk yard and find a wrecked truck like yours and take it out. they are not VIN coded so you can just swap them out.

As far as the radio lights, there is a place called "corvette radio" on the internet which replaces the bulbs for you. Send them the radio they replace the bulbs, and send it back. Cheaper than buying a new radio

Steering wheel controls need to be replaced, you can change the bulbs in the 4x4 unit and I would just buy a head unit off of ebay.

from what i have found..any switch on the dash has those stupid LEDs that cant be replaced...i just got done replacing 3 out of the 4 redundant radio controls..its best to have the dealership do them..there impossible to replace without pulling the airbag out. I have lights out in my Climate control, radio, Auto 4x4 light is out, fog light switch is out, and dimmer switch light is out...it seems like every switch on my dash has at least one light out lol
Crap, my hampster fell off the wheel and it broke its leg.

Wow. I also have one light out in my climate control. Seems like it's just the nature of the beast. I say, forget it. I don't need to see anything but my needles.

Re: Radio bulbs

Along with the Silverado, I have an '01 S10. I have changed the light bulbs in the radio (probably similar to yours), but I did have to re-solder the bulbs onto the main board of the face of the radio. I happened to have a donor radio lying around, so getting bulbs was easy! The other posters advice may be easier to live with, unless you like to tinker with things :) ! But, overall, it was a pretty easy job. Unfortunately, I don't have any extra bulbs lying around anymore.

Good luck with yours!
