Rear view mirror Temp / Compass

Rear view mirror Temp / Compass

Postby pdzani [OP] » Dec 27 2012, 2:17pm

I have a 2002 silverado LT and on my rear view mirror, the green light on the left is always off and I can not turn it on. The Temp/Compass does not work, I have the small window on the right of the mirror for this option but it is never on. The on star green button on the right works, and is always green. I have checked fuses, all ok, any suggestions on where to start on this one? thanks

The circuit boards i love the gm truck rear view mirrors are common for going bad. Ive peraonally been one of those people. But mine doesnt have onstar. Just compass and temp. Ck power and grounds via a wiring diagram and if all ok replace mirror. These mirrors are self sufficient with no exterior inputs for compass and temp. So if power and grounds are good thats it

The temp sensor is not integrated into the compass, it has 2 wires that go to the front of the truck where the sensor is mounted, but that wouldn't cause your issues. It's possible the mirror is bad or a wiring issue, but I believe the onstar and compass/temp use the same power wires. Does the auto dimming feature still work?

thats weird the green light should all ways be on even if you turn it off the next time you turn the truck on again it comes on automatically , the compass should all ways be on thats built in the mirror , if the temp senser dosent work then it should say OC on it , i have no clue about the onstar. i know the non-onstar mirror has a 7 pin and the onstar mirror has a 16 pin. it could be a lot of things , check the harness it self on both ends to see if its cut or not pluged in , check it with a multimeter to see if theirs any power , if possable change the mirror with a friends to see if its the mirror. i added the comp/temp mirror to a sl and found out the mirror/dome/reading/center tail-light use the same harness , your harness is probably different than mine because of the automatic A/C and driver side auto dim mirror/heated and onstar so the square block key is all full and probably has 2 or 3 keys for all the wires.

I will check the connections and the auto dim tonight, it is odd that the green light on the right for on star is always on but the green light on the left is always off, I can never seem to turn on the temp/compass. The window in the mirror for the temp is always dark. Thanks for all the input.

Yes the auto dimmer is working in the rear view mirror, it is a 16 pin connector that plugs in to the back of the mirror.

if theirs a green light on the right that means the auto dim is on like you said and it is working.
wait its a 2002 silverado LT does it have leather with center console and auto a/c and bose audio or is it a 2002 silverado LT with cloth seats no center console and standard a/c -radio? .you should really check too, how many pins it has 16 or 12,7,5,3 they made a ton of mirrors for gm some trucks have the onstar buttons next to the passager air bag switch. also what body style do you have, extended or crew cab its more common to see the onstar mirror on crew cabs than extended they put them on both just saying
