Removing extended cab rear door panel 2012 Silverado?

Postby SREED [OP] » Jun 04 2012, 10:39pm

Looking to replace the stock speakers (front & rear) on a new 2012 Silverado extended cab. Finding lots of information on removing front door panels, but no guidance on the extended rear doors. Some of the hardware is the same. It's the top part of the panel that's not clear.

Not sure how similar my 2006 extended door is to your 2012, but I also have a little trouble pulling it off when upgrading the speakers. I was able to get all the bottom and side clips popped, and then just gave it a good upward and out lifting motion. Not too hard, but it eventually just kinda came out. Watch for the open handle once it does come off the top, you'll have to pull it up to free the panel..

Thanks. This model has two side panels that extend all the way to the top of the door, up the sides of the window. The bottom panel can't come up until the two top panels on the sides are out of the way. I'll try to post a photo.

They are different, I can see that much in the pic for sure. It sort of looks like you just need pull it out from the top. It's probably a fiarly tight clip holding it in, being such a new truck. Try to pry it back and look in the side by the handle. You should see the clip a few inches down, and you just tug til it pops out.

It also looks like there is some sort of control button on the arm rest piece, just by the horizontal handle. If so, you'll need to pop that out and disconnect before taking the panel off.

This may also be a good time to invest <$25 for the repair manual for the truck. It would cover this and possibly have better site specific picture references to see what you're working with.

1) Starting at the top, pry off both trim panels on each side of the window.

2) Starting at the bottom edge pry off the screw panel cover behind the door pull and remove the two 10mm screws beneath it.

3) Pry off the screw cover panel behind the door handle and remove the 7mm screw beneath it.

4) Pry up the front edge of the power window switch panel and disconnect the wiring harness.

5) Pry out the sides and bottom of the door panel to release the clips that hold it in place. Disconnect the wiring harness and door release cable.
