Seat belt problem

Seat belt problem

Postby chile [OP] » Sep 28 2013, 4:22am

Every since I bought my truck in may of this year. I've been having a problem with the seatbelt lock. Both driver and passenger side seatbelts do this. The lock on almost any movement. If I move forward to change the radio it locks. It doesn't matter if the truck is moving or not.

Anybody have any experience with this or any tips.

Thanks

I have this occasionally happen to me. The locking mechanism is designed to lock when either there is rapid forward movement or when decelerating. It may lock faster depending on how far forward the seatback is.

I did a quick search and couldn't find any info on the subject.

I'd suspect a weak or broken spring in the seatbelt retractors.

That happens. I sneak up on mine when I want to turn and look left to see traffic. If I lean forward quickly it locks!

It could be a weak spring. Can it be repaired?

Mine locks on very small movements.

They are technicly not servicable (liabality concerns). The best bet is to just get new ones.

I know this is a little bit of an older thread, but I had a similar issue with my 97, and i popped off the panel at the bottom of the seat belt and tightened the bolt that puts pressure on the belt, that fixed it for me. Just in case you're still having this issue.
