Speedometer

Postby wojton83 [OP] » Jan 26 2012, 5:20am

Hey guys, I have a 2004 Sierra z71 and I just got it over Martin Luther King weekend. Problem with it is the speedometer doesn't work. Does anyone know what might be the root of this problem? Odometer doesn't work either.

Not quite sure on that one sir. Not sure if the speedometers are still cable. If so, then I would check at the tranny to make sure it is connected.

If you just got it two weeks ago, did you buy it from a dealership? They should fix that. Also, if those aren't working, are you sure it wasn't just detached in order to make a good sale? Sounds fishy.

You more than likely have a stepper motor problem, of which you have 6 or 7 in you instrument cluster. This requires you to take the cluster out yourself an solder in a new one or send it off to have someone else do it. You can search Google for Parts and Videos on what it is and how to do it , I did mine by having a buddy solder it and it was no problem.
