Steering wheel control's lights out

Steering wheel control's lights out

Postby robeward [OP] » Feb 11 2012, 1:43am

most of the steering wheel control lights are out on my 06 silverado. I did some searching on the forum and a few people said they just pop out and its easiest to just by new buttons that come with lights.

can anybody confirm or deny this and shed light on the removal of the buttons?

Thanks.

thanks for the link. I don't mind giving it a try.

Disregard the arrow in the image. I just found a random picture online. If you notice in the image how there are two buttons recessed in a plastic rim. Do you think you just try and pry out the buttons or the plastic rim and buttons as a whole?

Hi,

From what I've read and understand, the lights are LED and are part of the switches. You can pop them out, but putting in new ones will require taking the steering wheel off. The reason for this, is the wiring is not long enough to allow the switches to be pushed back onto the wiring clips. Here's a video at Jegs, that shows them replacing the steering wheel with a Grant model. Looks pretty straight forward, if your mechanically inclined. Just remember to take the battery cable off so the air bag does not deploy...

I hope this helped, :-)

Hey just one last thing...

You might be able to pry out the switches and replace them, without taking the steering wheel off... My truck had enough wire length to complete this task. I had to use a needle nose pliers to hold the wires though. Some trucks may not have enough wire length. But you have the ability or knowledge to take the steering wheel off...

Take care, :-)
