Topper / "Cap" Custom Headliner?

Topper / "Cap" Custom Headliner?

Postby VisualFX [OP] » May 09 2013, 2:56am

I was wondering if anyone has bought a roll of the headliner type material and used it on the inside of their topper / cap? I bought a used Century Cap and not a real big fan of the look of the underside fiberglass. I've seen pictures of my model that had this installed from the factory and it looks pretty nice. Just wondering if anyone has done it, how much of a PITA it was, and was it worth it? Thanks.

Did the second one work better? I know you can buy the stuff in rolls. Just wondering if I got some on a roll and slowly worked it around the windows and whatnot and used some fancy sealant to make sure it stayed stuck to the roof.

I did it on an old cap i had, i didnt have any issues with the carpet coming off. Im in northern canada and summer can be as hot as 40 and winter - 40
I used grey exterior carpet and industrial silicon based contact cement.
I painted the roof with the glue and the carpet as well
Make sure the glue on the roof is good and dry and if you put the carpet in place while it is still slightly tacky you will have a little give.
I think the most important thing is to use a silicon based glue so that the high heat in the summer wont cause the carpet to sag.
Unfortunately i dont have any pics because it was on a ford that i traded in for a real truck.
