aftermarket radio

aftermarket radio

Postby amadesian [OP] » May 13 2011, 2:35am

Hi all,

I have a 2000 Silverado extended cab. I am looking for a aftermarket radio with the following features:

AM/FM/CD
HD
Blue Tooth
Satellite Radio built in or capable
GPS
Radio Data System

I have a external GPS and external satellite radio and want to combine all the capabilities in one unit to eliminate all the wires and mess.

I have found some options on Crutchfled that I really like, but they will not fit bacause the dash trim covers part of the radio. If I can find replacement trim to go with a aftermarket radio, that would be great.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

The Kenwood Excelon KDC-X995 at Crutchfield should fill most of your requirements. Crutchfield supplies a free installlation kit that includes a mounting bracket trim kit.

Hi areseetoo, thanks for the reply. I found the Sony XNV-660BT which is very close to what I am looking for. There are a couple problems:

1. HD is optional -not really a problem, more of a nice to have
2. I have a XM satellite subscription. The Sony will supports Sirius, not sure if it will support XM
3. Crutchfield website says it will not fit my Silverado. I spoke to a tech at Cruthfield and he said that the radio will physically fit, but the dash trim covers part of the radio display. That is why Crutchfield says it won't fit.

If I can find a way to make the dash trim work, I would probably go with a system like the Sony.

The XM/Sirus compatability shouldn't be an issue. All you have to do is call XM/Sirus with your radio # abd ask them to transfer the subsciption.
Marine because.

2 options:
get a dash bezel from an 2002-2003 silverado which already incorporates a double din unit or mod your current dash opening to fit your unit most reputable shops have atleaste or, should have atleaste one installer thats capable
Crutchfield goes by the book on installs and wont defer from it at all

Hi Silver08,

Great suggestion on the bezel for a 02-03 Silverado! I did not think of that.

I will look into it.
