Battery Power Tap

Battery Power Tap

What is everyone using to connect their power wires to their battery? In the past I've used one of these...

to connect the power wire to the battery. The problem is that this tap bottoms out in the battery's threaded bushing and can actually crack the battery's case allowing acid to leak out. Unfortunately I speak from experience here. To get around the problem I took the stud to my bench grinder to shorten the bolt so that it wouldn't bottom out anymore. I've been out of the car stereo loop for some time now and I was wondering what new products might be out there for tapping the battery. Anyone?

GM doesn't use side post mounts on the full-sizes anymore. They went to the top post mount with the older style of clamp. There's a large fuse that is bolted to the wiring, and I found that is has plenty of room to hook up a 4ga wire with terminal. There are plenty of other places you can choose to add wiring as well, I just wanted to be after the fuse.

Cool! I wasn't aware of the new battery connection. I never liked those side connections to begin with.

Thanks!

I still like the side mount because I've had less issues with corrosion, but the top mount are easier to connector more wires to.

Here's a pic of mine with the 4ga wire attached.

That's odd. I've never had an issue with corrosion until I used one of these side taps. It wasn't until I realized that the tap had actually cracked the battery's case that I found the cause of it.
